Rus Mar Motel
5010 Ocean Ave

With a quiet atmosphere and a pet-friendly policy, the nine-room Rus Mar Motel is an ideal spot for those traveling with Fido. Its prime address on Ocean Avenue means guests only have to walk half a block to reach the beach and boardwalk -- a real bonus, especially considering there’s no pool here. The motel offers free parking and Wi-Fi, and has beach equipment like chairs and umbrellas available for daily rentals. Pets incur an extra nightly fee, and only two pets are allowed per room. Travelers looking for a pet-friendly place with a pool should consider Esplanade Suites, a Sundance Vacation Resort, a larger motel that is farther from the beach than Rus Mar.

Le Voyageur Motel
232 E Andrews Ave

Le Voyageur Motel is a budget-friendly option that’s ideal for families who’d like to be close to it all. The motel is two blocks from the boardwalk, beach, and Wildwoods Convention Center, and is within walking distance of several shops and restaurants. The pool is usually crowded with splashing children, but there are two sundecks that offer a little more peace and quiet. Le Voyageur has three room types, from standard motel rooms with one bed, to efficiencies with kitchenettes and separate living rooms. Despite being clean, rooms are seriously dated and lacking any kind of decorative flair. On-site parking and Wi-Fi are free, but guests will have to pay for laundry. Guests looking for a similar place with nicer rooms should check out sister property Dolphin Inn, which usually offers comparable nightly rates.

Blue Palms
3601 Atlantic Ave

Renovated in 2012, the Blue Palms is a family-friendly beach hotel with two heated pools. Located in the center of downtown Wildwood, a block from the beach and the Wildwood Boardwalk, this appealingly kitschy budget hotel is a short walk from restaurants and shops. Rooms are clean if a bit basic, and some have kitchenettes, sofa beds, or bunk beds. Free perks like rental bicycles, beach chairs, and continental breakfast in the summer add value.

The StarLux Hotel & Suites
305 E Rio Grande Ave

The Starlux is a family-friendly boutique hotel with highly stylized 1950s futuristic decor. Just over a block from the beach and Wildwood Boardwalk, this 45-room property is a short walk from restaurants and shops. Highlights include a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, game room, and fun-spirited guest rooms with lava lamps and mini-fridges. Free perks like beach chairs, rental bikes, and continental breakfast make the Starlux a solid value in the heart of town.

Esplanade Suites, a Sundance Vacations Resort
230 E Taylor Ave

Esplanade Suites, a Sundance Vacations Resort is a 32-room budget motel that appeals to families and those traveling with dogs. Its prime location on East Taylor Avenue is two blocks from the boardwalk, beach, and Wildwoods Convention Center. There are several room types, including Efficiencies with kitchenettes, but all have cheap motel-standard decor, and some guests complain of cleanliness issues. There is a tiny pool in the front of the motel, which tends to get noisy from boisterous family antics. The motel, which is open year-round, offers free parking and Wi-Fi and has a small barbecue area with two gas grills and a few picnic tables. Those traveling with dogs who would prefer something a bit quieter should check out Rus Mar Motel, which is cleaner and closer to the beach, but doesn’t have a pool.

The Sand Box Motel
5310 Park Blvd

The Sand Box Motel is a 24-room budget-friendly motel that caters to families. The Sand Box has a heated pool with a tiny waterslide and a sand box for the little ones, as well as a sundeck, hot tub, and two separate grilling areas for the adults. Completely renovated in the summer of 2015, rooms feel refreshed with updated furniture, carpeting, bedding, and fresh coats of paint on the walls. Bathrooms maintain their charming, original 1950s tile, but most are teeny tiny and some smell musty. The San Box’s major pitfall is its location -- five blocks and a good 10-minute walk from the beach. The motel is pet-friendly for a fee, and offers free parking and Wi-Fi. Guests traveling with pets who’d prefer to be closer to the beach should check out Rus Mar Motel, although its rooms aren’t as nice and it doesn’t have a pool.

Beach Terrace Motor Inn
3400 Atlantic Ave

The Beach Terrace Motor Inn is one of Wildwood’s larger hotels, with 78 rooms spanning eight stories. The hotel’s prime location on Atlantic Avenue, just one block from all the action of the beach, boardwalk, and water parks, is possibly its only truly great attribute -- otherwise, the place is pretty much a dump. The entire property shows signs of disrepair and neglect, from moldy air-conditioning vents in the rooms, to shaky railings on the balconies, to the stench of urine and cigarette smoke near the elevators. If you can ignore these failings, the hotel usually offers reasonable room rates, has a fairly nice rooftop pool, and is home to an on-site buffet restaurant and a happening bar and nightclub. Just about any hotel in the area is a better pick -- The Sunflower Motel has better hospitality, while AA Heart of Wildwood Motels has nicer rooms. Both have more expensive nightly rates.

AA Heart of Wildwood Motels
3915 Ocean Ave, 4002 Ocean ave

The claim “Truly in the Heart of Wildwood” rings true for AA Heart of Wildwood Motels, a 74-room motel that’s within an easy walking distance to the beach, boardwalk, water parks, and tons of nearby shops, restaurants, and bars. The motel is split between three buildings -- one abuts the boardwalk and has prime ocean views, while the other two are across the street a bit farther from the beach. This is a family-friendly place with two pools and multiple room types, but rates tend to be a little pricier than similar motels nearby. The boardwalk-front building, with its rooftop pool and ocean views, is surely prime real estate here, but some guests may prefer the other buildings across the street, which tend to be quieter. Guests looking to be closer to the convention center, or farther away from the noisy boardwalk rides, should check out Days Inn Wildwood, which has similar accommodations and amenities.
