Relais Blu
Via Roncato 60

The 11-room Relais Blu Belvedere is an upscale boutique in the village of Marciano-Termini with gorgeous sea views. The hotel has an infinity pool open during the summer and there's a gourmet restaurant on-site serving land and sea tasting menus. All rooms -- breezy and modern with white and blue decor -- have sea views. The outdoor terrace -- also decorated in mostly white with accents of marine blue -- is effortlessly stylish, and an ideal spot for a drink overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Isle of Capri. The hotel is less than a 30-minute drive from Sorrento.

Residence Gocce di Capri
Via delle Tore 7

Gocce di Capri is a peaceful, rural residence with striking views overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Isle of Capri. There are a total of 21 mid-range rooms including apartments with kitchenettes, a detached house, and regular rooms. All have terraces with great views of Capri. There is a big outdoor pool with lounge chairs and a cafe bar. A scenic terrace hosts a casual Italian restaurant. The hotel is about a 30-minute drive from Sorrento, but difficult to reach without a car.

Villaggio Resort Nettuno
Via Amerigo Vespucci 39

Villaggio Resort Nettuno is a lower-middle-range property with a variety of options for those who wish to stay here. Campers can pitch a tent or set up their mobile home on the premises; there are also independent bungalows set in the terraced landscape, and slightly rustic apartments situated in a centuries-old tower up the hill from the main encampment. Some campers have noted that though the bathroom facilities are relatively clean, they look a bit old and dingy. The property is located a five-minute walk from Marina Cantone, reputedly one of the more beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast. This small pebble beach provides access to crystalline waters as well as ferry service to Capri.

Art Hotel Villa Fiorella
Via Vincenzo Maggio 5, (Via Marina Della Lobra)

The 23-room Art Hotel Villa Fiorella is an upscale property with splendid Gulf of Naples views, and sleek, 2016-renovated interiors. High-perched above Massa Lubrense, and within walking distance of this picturesque town, it's also well-placed for Sorrento and boat trips to Capri. Minimalist-chic interiors let the views take center stage, which are found throughout. The spacious rooms all come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and furnished outdoor spaces. Free breakfasts, lounger service at the infinity pool, and rooftop drinking and dining round out the quality amenities. Offering larger garden and pool areas, the Residence Gocce Di Capri is a good (albeit less stylish) family alternative.

Hotel Delfino
Via Nastro d'Oro 2, Sorrento Coast

This romantic hotel has spectacular views of the Bay of Naples and is a popular destination for guests seeking peace and quiet away from the bustle of Sorrento's main tourist areas. The management provides free shuttle service into town several times a day, which is a 20-minute drive away. (A car is recommended for those wanting to be fully mobile.) Guests have noted that this property is generally inconvenient for families with children, given its dramatic position on a cliff and the many steep steps to the adjacent beach area. Still, visitors have remarked on the convenience of the hotel's position in regards to day trips around the Amalfi Coast.

Hotel Orso Bruno
Via Regina Vecchia 45

The 10-room Hotel Orso Bruno is a family-run, two-and-a-half-pearl property nestled on Lake Como, across from the Urio Pier, a convenient base to explore the other lakeside towns. The husband and wife owners serve free breakfast and run a pizzeria with a terrace facing the lake. Downstairs is a separately owned bar. Private parking, for a fee, is also available. Simple, modest rooms come with small flat-screen TVs and private bathrooms, and some have balconies with lovely lake views. This location is quiet and laid-back, but travelers seeking a livelier setting might prefer the Grand Hotel Menaggio.

Lefay Resort & Spa Lago di Garda
Via Feltrinelli 136

The 93-room Lefay Resort and Spa Lago di Garda is an eco-friendly luxury hotel with spectacular views at every turn, three stylish and chic pools, and an underground cave-style spa. Rooms are spacious and stylish and come with balconies and large tubs. The remote location, on a winding road, may discourage guests from venturing out, especially in evenings. A hotel closer to the lakefront, but with fewer deluxe amenities, is Villa Giuli.

Boutique Hotel Villa Sostaga
Via Sostaga, 19

The 19-room Boutique Hotel Villa Sostaga is a hillside refuge overlooking the gorgeous Lake Garda and surrounded by lush gardens and pathways. The alpine location means that leaving the hotel is a bit of a journey, even by car, and guests often opt to stay on-site at night and take advantage of the fine dining available at Ristorante Sostaga. The rooms at this hotel are large, bright, and cheerful and many have gorgeous lake views from their balconies. To avoid the winding uphill car trip, the Hotel Bogliaco Lago is an alternative.

Aquapetra Resort & Spa
Piazza Telesia 1

This charming luxury resort set in the rolling hills just outside the spa town of Telese combines the rustic charm of a 19th-century village with the comforts of a modern spa property. An excellent restaurant is on the premises; the grounds are bucolic; and the bungalow-style rooms are sophisticated, with the luxuries one would expect at this price point, such as Malin + Goetz toiletries and bathrobes. Because children 15 and under are not allowed in the spa, this is a popular destination for romantic getaways in particular.

Borgo Santo Pietro
Borgo Santo Pietro, 110

The boutique Borgo Santo Pietro is a Relais & Chateaux property located in the rolling Tuscan countryside, under an hour's drive from Siena. The 20 individually styled rooms and suites here are stunningly elegant, outfitted with antique furniture, rustic wood-beamed ceilings, heavy crystal chandeliers, and luxurious bathrooms with tubs. On-site facilities include a lovely outdoor infinity pool, a spa using products created on-site, and sprawling gardens. There are also two restaurants, one of which is Michelin-starred and sources much of its ingredients from the property. While the location is excellent for those looking for a romantic countryside getaway, kids might find it boring. Families may be better off staying at Adler Thermae Spa & Relax Resort, which isn't quite as opulent but offers plenty of services and activities for children.
