Stage Coach Lodge
1111 10th St

The 26-room budget Stage Coach Lodge is a family-run chain hotel that doesn't feel chain-like, thanks to the owners’ taste and attention to detail. The Stage Coach is a bona fide (but charming) roadside motel, convenient to Monterey’s most popular attractions, with beautiful flowers on the grounds and in the common areas, a pristine outdoor pool, and a Diver's Station for the convenience of scuba enthusiasts. Rooms are updated and spotless, with comfortable furniture and cheerful decor.

Ayres Hotel Anaheim
2550 E Katella Ave

The 133-room Ayres Hotel Anaheim is a classically elegant (although some would call it dated) alternative to the more common hotels around Disneyland. Richly decorated and full of homey touches including fireplaces, antique furniture, and soft beds, this hotel has a more grownup vibe in comparison to its neighbors. There is an affordable shuttle to nearby attractions, an outdoor pool and hot tub, and a well-maintained business center. Located steps away from the Honda Center and walking distance to Angel Stadium, this hotel is a comfortable, convenient pick. However, there's no full restaurant (but breakfast is free) and the fitness center is small.

Marriott Irvine Spectrum
7905 Irvine Center Dr

The upscale Marriott Irvine Spectrum opened to great fanfare as the refreshed version of the Marriott brand in early 2018. It has an adult playground vibe with features unexpected for it's immediate business park surroundings (the Taco Bell headquarters is across the street). There's a resort-style outdoor swimming pool with cabanas, a gourmet Californian restaurant, and the area's only rooftop bar. Business travelers will appreciate the Starbucks in the lobby, two-story fitness center, and the M Club Lounge for free food and drinks. The 271 contemporary minimalist rooms feature enormous windows and some kitchens. Expect to pay extra for breakfast, Wi-Fi, and valet parking. For something closer to the water, Balboa Bay Club & Resort is located right on the marina in Newport Beach.

Hotel Republic San Diego
421 W B St

The 258-room Hotel Republic San Diego, Autograph Collection is a youthful, upscale property in Downtown San Diego, within walking distance to Broadway Pier and the Gaslamp Quarter. Modern common areas include a stylish lobby lounge, a vibrant restaurant, and a posh, happening rooftop bar. Blue-and-white rooms have chic furnishings, minibars, and cool window seats, but some are on the small side for the price. The hotel offers a fitness center, but the fees are high for Wi-Fi and parking. The Andaz has bigger standard rooms and a cooler location in the Gaslamp Quarter, so it may be worth comparing rates.
