There are extensive spa and fitness facilities on-site, as well as 12 tennis courts and a tennis school. Children are catered to with a kids' clubs for a range of ages. Three pools include two outdoor options (but they're not heated) and an indoor/outdoor pool in the spa area that's adult-only. Guests can choose between three restaurants, and there are six bars on-site, including a night club. The 306 guest rooms are stylish and inviting, each with a private balcony or patio as well as a good range of amenities; chic suites have living room areas. It's a bit outside of the town center (seven-minute drive), so travelers seeking something closer to the action might want to check out Sentido Tucan.

Hotel Playasol Cala Tarida
C/ Plaza del Mar, s/n

The Hotel Club Cala Tarida is a budget hotel complex set on a cliff top above the scenic and sandy Cala Tarida beach, accessible via a short trail from the hotel. The atmosphere is fun, friendly, and unpretentious, though it is dated, especially the 195 rooms, all of which have old tube TVs, air-conditioning, and balconies or terraces. With both a kids' club during the day, animation teams on hand, and nightly entertainment, the hotel draws families, groups of friends, and couples, though some might prefer less noise in the evenings. Group travelers after a cheap stay with even more of a party scene may want to check out the Florencio Hostal up the coast in San Antonio.

Hotel Sa Barrera
Carrer Sa Barrera, 12

The three-pearl Sa Barrera is an extravagantly decorated, family-run hotel located in the small, low-key resort of Cala'n Porter. Set on the top of a cliff, the picturesque Cala'n Porter cove is a 10-minute walk away and the resort center is just minutes on foot. The 26 ornately styled guest rooms won't suit all tastes, but they have fast, free Wi-Fi and extend to large balconies -- some with glimpses of the sea. A sunny swimming pool is lined with comfy loungers, but that's about it for leisure facilities. A rather underwhelming breakfast is included, though the hotel's Italian restaurant offers an excellent dinner menu in a romantic candlelit setting. For those looking for something a little different, this unashamedly flamboyant occasionally chintzy hotel is ideal. With its adults-only policy, families with kids may wish to consider the Hotel Playa Azul, practically opposite.

Hotel Playa Azul
Paseo Maritimo, 27, Cala'n porter

The Hotel Playa Azul is a relatively small and unpretentious three-pearl property set on the small clifftop resort of Cala'n Porter, overlooking part of its beautiful, sandy cove. Interiors are simple, bright, and modern throughout, including the 126 guest rooms, most of which open to balconies or terraces -- some even featuring sea and sunset views. Leisure facilities are limited though the sunny pool terrace provides a pleasant spot to sunbathe and take a dip. Half-board comes as standard, with the option of an upgrade to all-inclusive, and buffet dining is decent enough. Most tourists will find everything they need for a relaxing and straightforward break here; for a little more character and free in-room Wi-Fi (though no elevators) check out the Sa Barrera just along the road.

Globales Almirante Farragut
Urbanizacion Los Delfines s/n

The three-and-a-half-pearl Globales Club Almirante Farragut Hotel is your typical resort-style property with an impressive clifftop setting overlooking the west coast of Minorca. With a capacity of more than one thousand guests, it's a big hotel and its pool terrace sometimes struggle with the volumes. All updated in 2015, 493 guest rooms are bright and modern, with most offering sea-view balconies, though for decent in-room Wi-Fi there's a fee. The property dwarfs a pretty neighboring cove, to which guests have direct access. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, which is useful as the quality of the hotel's buffet dining is generally poor. While there's enough to keep the kids entertained, those after the resort-hotel experience but with a sandy beach nearby should consider the Club Hotel Aguamarina, which also has a waterpark.
