Hotel Via Augusta

The two-pearl Hotel Via Augusta offers good overall value for budget-conscious travelers who don’t mind a 20-minute train ride to see Barcelona’s attractions. Located near the Gracia Metro station and some restaurants, the no frills hotel is quiet and comfortable. Its 80 rooms are clean and well maintained, but they're small and sparsely decorated. Mini-fridges are available on request for an additional fee. The breakfast buffet includes meat and egg dishes, but it’s not included in room rates. Parking and bicycle rentals are available, and there are self-serve laundry facilities and free Wi-Fi. The mid-range Aparthotel Bertran is also about 20 minutes outside downtown Barcelona and has comparable rates, but offers spacious, apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes.

Sir Victor Hotel

For an upscale property in the Eixample neighborhood, near some of Barcelona's best dining and shopping, Hotel Omm is hard to beat. A suitable choice for business or leisure travelers, the hotel has all the amenities one would expect of a luxury property: a rooftop swimming pool with city views, a hot nightclub with table service, a spa that’s open daily, and the Michelin-starred restaurant Roca Moo. Rooms are elegant and spacious, some with balconies and views and all with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi.

Leonardo Hotel Barcelona Gran Via

The Hotel HCC Open is a mid-range hotel in the Eixample neighborhood, within walking distance of the metro and many of Barcelona’s major landmarks. Overall, this isn’t the most stylish hotel, but business travelers and tourists looking for a decent place to rest after long days of sightseeing or business meetings can find solid, if barebones, accommodations here. The 100 rooms are basic and have generic decor, but they're quiet and well-maintained. Amra Barcelona Gran Via is a good alternative for those looking for more contemporary rooms in the Eixample. It offers fresh design elements and a more intimate, boutique vibe,  often at a lower price point.

Novotel Barcelona City
Avenida Diagonal 201 Entrada por Ciutat de Granada

The 264-room Novotel Barcelona City is a luxury chain hotel situated in the Poblenou neighborhood, about 20 minutes from the heart of the city via public transport. The hotel's best feature is its 19th-floor rooftop terrace, which includes a seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub, as well as a bar and lovely lounge spaces. An on-site Mediterranean restaurant serves lunch and dinner, plus a breakfast buffet is available, as is room service -- but these extras can be pricey. Rooms are tasteful and contemporary, if somewhat generic, with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Guests on the market for a luxury hotel in this area may want to compare rates with the Silken Diagonal Barcelona right across the street, which offers similar amenities including a rooftop pool -- but lacks a fitness center.

ibis Barcelona Pza Glories 22

The 147-room Ibis Barcelona Pza Glories 22 is a budget chain hotel located in the El Poblenou neighborhood. Though not within walking distance of top tourist attractions, it's well serviced by public transportation and many sights can be reached in about 20 minutes. This low-frills chain property is clean and modern, with contemporary rooms that have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Amenities are limited to a tiny fitness room with cardio equipment and a lobby bar that's open 24/7, plus the hotel serves a daily breakfast buffet (for an extra fee). For guests on a budget, the Ibis Barcelona Meridiana is an almost identical property that tends to be cheaper, but it's farther from tourist sights.

Roma Reial Hotel
Plaça Reial 11, Ciutat Vella

The 52-room Roma Reial Hotel is an average, no-frills budget hotel with a central location on the popular Placa Reial, just off Las Ramblas in the heart of Barcelona. Rooms are extremely basic and dated, but clean and have en-suite bathrooms, TVs, and (sometimes) AC. Features are limited to a cellar breakfast room, which serves up a simple free breakfast. The price is hard to beat for the location, and while it lacks the social ambiance of a hostel, rooms are private. Rates are similar at the Travelodge Barcelona Poblenou, where rooms are a bit more stylish, but it's outside of the city center.

Hotel Silken St. Gervasi

The mid-range Silken St. Gervasi is a contemporary and intimate property with 63 modern, but basic rooms. All units have flat-screen TVs and minibars. Decor is simple and streamlined, but suites add a bit of extravagance with deep jetted tubs. The property provides a few amenities for its clients like a breakfast buffet, meeting rooms, and parking. All in all, it’s a good hotel with decent features, though it’s far from the action of central Barcelona, off in the Sant Gervasi neighborhood. Opt for Hotel America Barcelona which is closer to the city center and has a pool and a hot tub.

Catalonia Atenas Hotel

The Catalonia Atenas Hotel is a three pearl, moderately priced chain hotel not far from Barcelona's famous Sagrada Familia. With a range of room options and pricing, the hotel offers accommodations a wide variety of travelers. The decor is sparse and rather bland, with a typical 1990s-chain aesthetic, though wood-tones in the rooms make the space more friendly. There's a restaurant, fitness center, spa, and business facilities, but the hotel's best feature is a rooftop pool and sundeck with panoramic views of the neighborhood and city.

Free Hostels Barcelona

Nestled among the grid-patterned blocks and Gaudi’s iconic architecture in Barcelona’s Eixample District, Free Hostels offers value accommodations in surprisingly elegant surroundings. The 13-room, dorm-like property features contemporary decor by local artists, and is small but efficient with its space. Beds come with built-in storage and all rooms have private bathrooms. Free breakfasts are served in the communal kitchen and lounging areas allow for plenty of mingling space. Despite its location within the city, most Barcelona attractions can’t be reached on foot, so budget travelers may prefer the more centrally-located Generator Barcelona hostel.

Aspasios Rambla Catalunya Suites

The Aspasios Rambla Catalunya Suites consists of 24 spacious apartments decorated in a chic, bright, modern style, with either terraces or balconies. Centrally located on a major street in Eixample, it's within walking distance of several tourist attractions, and the Passeig de Gracia metro station is about a five-minute walk away. Apartments have top-notch fully equipped kitchens, flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. These are self-catered apartments, and there's no breakfast service, fitness facilities, or pool. Travelers who prefer more typical hotel amenities might want to compare rates with the nearby NH Collection Barcelona Calderon, which has a rooftop pool, a restaurant, and a wellness center, but in-room Wi-Fi comes with a fee.
