Zion Mountain Ranch
9065 West Highway 9

Zion Mountain Ranch is a three-pearl working ranch right outside Zion National Park, a 30-minute drive from the park's main parking lot. The ranch offers a range of 53 cabins and lodges with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, though the TVs lack cable and there are some maintenance issues. The nicest cabins have extras like full kitchens or a massage room. There’s a single farm-to-table restaurant, Cordwood, with ingredients sourced from the ranch and a full breakfast for a fee. Most features here focus on exploring, and include booked guides and tours, horseback riding, and in-cabin massages for any lingering saddle soreness. As an alternative, the Holiday Inn Express Springdale, Zion Natl Pk Area has a free shuttle to downtown Springdale and the national park, plus a pool and a free breakfast.

Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort
Twin Knolls Road, PO Box 5547

This 4000-acre ranch located on the eastern entrance of Zion National Park is all about parks and recreation. With hiking trails that can actually lead guests into Zion as well as a ton of activities to amuse kids and adults alike -- think horseback riding, wall climbing, trampoline bungees, zip lining, miniature golf, all-terrain vehicle tours, and more -- this rustic resort is perfect for people wanting a fun-filled vacation. There’s also a small spa on the property as well as a large pool and hot tub. An on-site restaurant serves a la carte breakfast and dinner, and different snack bar-type options are available for lunch. Rooms run the gamut from full-sized mountain homes to shared camp-style cabins to RV-hookup sites to old-school tents; in other words, your type of stay here will largely be predicated on what you book. No matter what kind of lodging you choose, however, you will definitely not have a shortage of things to do at the Zion Ponderosa.****

Best Western Plus Cedar City
50 W 200 N

The mid-range BEST WESTERN PLUS Cedar City occupies a central location that's within walking distance of dining options, bars, and the yearly Utah Shakespeare Festival. The mid-range hotel offers a decent amount of amenities that add value, like a free hot breakfast and afternoon snacks, as well as a fitness room. There's also an outdoor pool that's open seasonally. Other facilities include a small snack shop, a meeting room, and a business center. Interiors are fairly bland and chain- like, but are well maintained and clean. Guest rooms provide a solid set of amenities, including microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. For an alternative, check out the BEST WESTERN Town & Country Inn, which has an indoor pool as well as jetted tubs in some rooms.

Hampton Inn Moab
488 N Main St

The Hampton Inn Moab offers modern facilities and a prime location in the heart of downtown Moab, just a short drive from Arches and Canyonlands national parks. The three-pearl property offers a nice set of features, including free hot breakfast buffet, nice fitness center, pool/whirlpool, guest laundry facilities, and free parking and Wi-Fi. Its 79 guest rooms are spacious and they have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, but decor is drab and they lack microwaves. Suites add them, however and they also come with sleeper sofas and wet bars. Rates are competitive but like other area hotels they can spike quite high in peak season, when rooms can be hard to find. The nearby Comfort Suites is an attractive alternative with comparable amenities for about the same price, but the all-suites property has more contemporary units.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Moab
1515 Hwy 191 North

The lower-middle-range Holiday Inn Express & Suites Moab is a modern chain hotel positioned between downtown Moab and Arches National Park. It’s a peaceful setting, but somewhat isolated as it's not within reasonable walking distance to downtown and its restaurants. It makes a good base for tourists exploring the national parks, however, with a good amenities package that features a (seasonal) heated outdoor pool with a waterfall feature, two whirlpools, fitness center, laundry room, free Wi-Fi, and free hot breakfast. Rooms are clean, spacious, and nicely equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers. Rates are competitive but like those at other Moab hotels, they spike in peak season. Another attractive option in the heart of downtown, with comparable rates and amenities, is the lower-middle-range Comfort Suites.

Best Western Plus Greenwell Inn
105 S Main St

The mid-range Best Western Plus Greenwell Inn is centrally located on South Main Street in downtown Moab, making it a convenient base from which to explore the spectacular national parks nearby. The hotel has been nicely updated with a modern lobby, and attractive amenities include a free hot breakfast, heated outdoor pool/whirlpool, and 24-hour fitness center. Its 75 guest rooms are spacious but a bit dark, with laminate wood floors, flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi, but microwaves aren't standard. Like other Moab hotels, rates can spike in peak season when rooms can be difficult to find. A good option with comparable amenities and rates is the Comfort Suites, which also is downtown.

Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn
16 S Main St

The mid-range, 80-room Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn is centrally located in Moab, a short drive from Canyonlands National Park. The hotel offers simple rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges as well as suites with kitchens or kitchenettes, fireplaces, and living rooms. Some guests have complained that soundproofing in rooms is poor, which is particularly noticeable on the ground floor, so light sleepers should request a room on an upper level. Other features include a 24-hour front desk, a patio deck overlooking the La Sal Mountains, a seasonal pool, two hot tubs, a playground, a modern gym, and on-site bike repairs with storage.

Inca Inn
570 N Main St

The 24-room Inca Inn is a no-nonsense budget hotel set against beautiful red rock mountains in downtown Moab. The inn is run by a husband and wife team and stays true to its "budget done right" slogan, providing a heated outdoor pool, a breakfast room/lobby, and bicycle storage. Rooms are clean and simple, with microwaves, mini-fridges, tube TVs, and LED showerheads, but they could do with a few more electrical outlets and some could use a bedding upgrade.
