Il Principe Hotel

Il Principe Hotel

Via Alessi 20-26, Centro Storico, Catania, Italy

Il Principe Hotel is a three-and-a-half pearl hotel situated in the historic center of Catania, just a few steps from the Duomo and beautiful Crociferi Street, known for its Baroque churches. Rooms are updated and modern with marble bathrooms and, in some cases, whirlpool bathtubs while still retaining a few historical touches like small balconies overlooking the street. (It's a shame about the ugly coverlets on the beds.) Free continental breakfast is served each morning. There's a piano bar as well, but the piano is more for decoration than live music. Free Wi-Fi, large meeting spaces, and a laptop loaning system make this a popular spot for business travelers, though tourists like the walkable location and rental bikes.

Hotel Ucciardhome

Hotel Ucciardhome

Via Enrico Albanese 34/36, Palermo, Italy

The Hotel Ucciardhome combines historic charm and modern style in a central location within walking distance of many attractions, shops, and restaurants. There are antique stone arches in the lobby, brickwork in the rooms, and minimalist yet modern design in the inviting rooms. Lovely tile floors and contemporary furniture decorate the rooms, but the bathrooms -- which huge walk-in showers and rainfall showerheads -- are the standout feature. Some rooms also have skylights and balconies. The property is pet-friendly (only small pets allowed) and there is free Wi-Fi, but only in public areas. A free breakfast receives good reviews and the free indoor parking is great for downtown.

Hotel Plaza Opera

Hotel Plaza Opera

Via Nicolo' Gallo 2, Palermo, Italy

The 47-room, upper-middle-range Hotel Plaza Opera offers stylish rooms that blend antique and contemporary features to create a comfortable and convenient base in the center of Palermo. There are many landmarks within walking distance and the narrow lanes of the historic Castellammare district are just 15 minutes away on foot. The hotel serves a free breakfast with hot and cold options as well as Italian specialties, and amenities like free Wi-Fi and a rooftop terrace add extra value to a stay here. Additionally, there are two on-site meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 50 guests with audiovisual services and catering.
