Orlando is one of the country's vacation hot spots, thanks the Disney World and Universal Studios parks. A short drive from the area's heavy-hitting attractions, Kissimmee's Old Town is an entertainment complex with retail shops, restaurants, bars, arcade games, and an 84-foot-high LED Ferris wheel-- not to mention a calendar filled with magic shows, karaoke events, movie nights, and live music. Check out our picks for the top hotels near Old Town.
Comfort Suites Maingate East is a 198-room mid-range hotel that's located within driving distance to the Orlando area theme parks. Rooms are pretty standard for the brand -- families will appreciate that each is a suite with a small kitchenette and plenty of space. The outdoor pool is clean and deep, and there's an adjacent tiki bar for adults. Room rates here are comparable with Tropical Palms Resort and Campground, below, but Comfort Suites has better freebies, like free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and shuttle rides to the theme parks.
Celebration Suites is a 302-room property that's a five-minute walk from Old Town. It has three pools (versus Comfort Suites' one), two of which are heated, and three on-site eateries, including a Cuban coffeeshop and cafe. A continental breakfast is available for a low fee, but Comfort Suites' breakfast is free and includes hot items. All of Celebration's rooms are air-conditioned, and include a 40-inch LED Smart TVs with free HBO, a balcony or terrace, and kitchenette with mini-fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker. There are also suites featuring full kitchens and separate bedrooms. Celebration offers free Wi-Fi throughout, as well as free daily shuttles to the Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores.
Located off U.S. 192, Tropical Palms Resort and Campground is within walking distance of Old Town, and a 10-minute drive of Disney World. The 67-acre property houses 150 air-conditioned bungalows (most with fully equipped kitchens), as well as RV sites (most with full hookups). The two outdoor pools are the main draw, and there are also a poolside cafe, mini-golf, and a small lake with a deck. Unlike Comfort Suites and Celebration Suites, free Wi-Fi is only available at designated hot spots and there is a fee to ride the theme park shuttle.
Much of this hotel is in need of a refresh, but Quality Suites Royale Parc Suites' location -- near Disney theme parks and Old Town -- is solid. The apartment-style hotel has a New Orleans theme and ample family-friendly activities and amenities, like a spacious pool deck with a hot tub and kids' pool, plus a playground, picnic area, and arcade. Even though the mattresses, carpet, and tiling were replaced in 2015, rooms still feel tired, but they do feature two bedrooms, kitchenettes, and flat-screen TVs. Freebies here are on par with Comfort Suites: breakfast buffet, shuttles to local amusement parks, Wi-Fi, and parking.
This affordable hotel in Kissimmee largely caters to families visiting Disney, so it may not be surprising that it offers a long list of kid-friendly amenities, including a large heated pool, a children’s pool, a whirlpool, a game room, laundry facilities, and a food court with several dining options. And best of all may be that children under 12 eat for free (limit to two children per paying adult). But there is a daily -- albeit inexpensive -- service fee, and the location off the highway makes for neither a picturesque nor noise-free stay. For the price, however, this hotel –- with modern rooms and a free shuttle to Disney and Epcot –- is a solid mid-range pick.
