A mid-range chain hotel

squares in Ireland. Guests are about a five-minute walk to the Smithfield Luas
tram stop and a 15-minute walk to the Ilac Shopping Center. Some of the 92 contemporary-style rooms have balconies that overlook Dublin, and all bathrooms

Scene

A modern hotel with an on-site bar and cafe drawing locals as well as guests

The lobby's lounge area resembles a modern airport lounge, with roomy purple and yellow armchairs and a bright patterned carpet. It's furnished with some unusual but useful amenities, such as a scale for weighing luggage, a live flight board for checking flights, and a computer with a printer for printing boarding passes. The ground-floor Stir Cafe and Bar, with lavender walls and wine-hued leather chairs and carpeting, is popular with guests and local residents alike. Guests are mainly couples on a getaway, although business travelers, families, and solo travelers also appreciate the location and amenities.

Location

A hip location in one of Dublin's oldest market squares

With a trendy inner-city hipster location, the Maldron Hotel Smithfield sits in Smithfield Square, one of Ireland's oldest market squares, which was originally a horse market. Guests are an eight-minute drive from Dublin Heuston, one of Ireland's main railway stations, and a five-minute walk to Smithfield Luas tram stop, with red line connections through Dublin's city center. For nightlife, Temple Bar has plenty of restaurants and pubs, and it's about a five-minute drive from the hotel. For history enthusiasts, Dublin Castle, which dates to 1204, is a six-minute drive from the hotel. Guests interested in whiskey are a three-minute walk to the Old Jameson Distillery, which offers whiskey tasting and dining experiences. Dublin Airport is about 18-minutes away by car.

Rooms

Spacious, contemporary rooms with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs

The Maldron Hotel Smithfield has 92 contemporary rooms, all equipped with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen multi-channel TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, hairdryers, safes, and trouser presses with wall-mounted irons. Rooms include Standard Double and King Rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, or Standard Double and Suite Rooms with balconies and panoramic views of Dublin. Rooms are handsomely decorated, with crisp white linens, mustard-colored accents in bed throws and desk chairs, and gray-toned carpeting. White-tiled bathrooms are clean and spacious, with power-showers in shower/tub combos and wall-mounted soap dispensers.
