Bottom Line

The H Top Royal Beach is a large budget hotel located down the street from Fenals Beach. It is not as upscale as its advertised 4-star rating suggests, but it does have a few nice perks. Highlights here include a rooftop featuring two whirlpools, a bar, and loungers; a nice pool with an area for kids; and a kids’ club offering activities both for kids and teenagers. Rooms are adequate overall, with furnished balconies, generic decor with wood accents, and air-conditioning. However, all units have small tube TVs, there’s a fee for Wi-Fi, and lower floors can get noise.

Scene

A large hotel geared towards families and couples

H Top Royal Beach is popular with families and couples. There is nothing particularly outstanding about this hotel, but it does offer good value, and the property is adequate overall, with a few solid amenities. Decor style is mostly generic here, from the wood-paneled lobby featuring cream-colored floors, wooden furniture, and wall-to-wall windows, to the rooms. The vibe is somewhat quieter than at other all-inclusive properties in Lloret, which draw hordes of young partiers. There is nightly entertainment, lines for the buffet, and a crowded pool just like at most other hotels -- but guests can get a break from the hustle and bustle by taking the elevator to the seventh-floor solarium, which features a couple of whirlpools and a bar. Here, kids are only allowed when supervised by an adult.

Location

A block from the beach, and within walking distance of dining, nightlife and shopping

The property is located in a residential area home to a few other hotels. Fenals Beach -- somewhat quieter than Lloret’s main beach -- is a block away, and there are many restaurants, bars, and shops nearby. Guests can walk to the city center in about 15 to 20 minutes, or take the bus, which stops a short walk away. Girona-Costa Brava Airport is located a 30-minute drive away, and Barcelona can be reached by car in just over an hour.

Rooms

Spacious and bright, with balconies and air-conditioning -- but small tube TVs

The hotel offers 368 spacious rooms, all of which are equipped with air-conditioning, and balconies furnished with two plastic chairs. Decor is mostly generic -- with yellow bedspreads sprinkled with red flowers, matching curtains, and wooden furniture -- but rooms are adequate for the price. The small, old tube TVs and the thin walls, however, are a letdown. Bathrooms are fairly standard, with shower/tub combos, hotel-brand toiletries, and bidets. Light sleepers may want to request a room on the top floors, as noise from the pool and other common spaces carries. Wi-Fi is available for a fee.

Features

Two rooftop whirlpools, a pool, a buffet restaurant, and a kids’ club -- but no spa

With a kiddy pool; a kids’ club complete with an arcade for teens; a playground; and family-friendly entertainment during peak season, the hotel is a solid pick for those traveling with children. It can get loud with kids running around during the day, so guests looking for a quieter spot may want to check out the rooftop area, complete with two whirlpools, loungers, and a bar.The ground floor pool is fairly large, with loungers and a few seating areas where guests can enjoy a drink or a snack from the bar. The restaurant, a large and bright space with floor-to-ceiling windows, serves an average buffet.
